Away, Rio (sea shanty recorded in 1939)

'Away, Rio' (also known as 'Rio Grande') is an outward-bound shanty sung by sailors at the capstan or windlass whilst lifting anchor. This 1939 recording has a certain raw charm and features the unaccompanied vocals of Captain Leighton Robinson, Alex Barr, Arthur Brodeur, and Leighton McKenzie. It is courtesy of the Library of Congress, W.P.A. California Folk Music Project collection. (3.0 MiB, MP3, 4 minutes)
