First published in 1893, Columbus Day throws light on the real origin of the name 'America'. Wrote Captain Charles H. Townshend in his thought-provoking paper: "The whole world has been led into the error that America was named for Vesputius, a Florentine map-maker, who enlightened Europe on the discoveries of Columbus."
