On Shipboard by Stephen French Whitman
'On Shipboard' is a satirical article about a voyage on board a steamship written by American author Stephen French Whitman (1880–1948). It was published in the 26 August 1911 edition of Harper's Weekly but should resonate with readers in today's age of mega cruise ships. Excerpt: "So quickly, all these strangely assorted folk settle down to live together, perforce, for days and pass the time in their narrow little colony as well as may be until the gang-planks are cleared at last and they are free to go their five hundred ways."
