Welsh singer Shirley Bassey (born 1937) was 20 years old when she recorded 'The Banana Boat Song' in 1957 together with Wally Scott's orchestra and chorus. It became her first hit. The song, written by Alan Arkin, Bob Carey and Erik Darling, is an adaptation of the traditional Jamaican song made popular by Harry Belafonte.
