I have just published a new edition of ‘How to Protect Your Rights as a Seafarer’, a booklet which I first issued in 2020. This is my humble contribution to the worldwide campaign to promote the rights of those who toil at sea. I hope that seafarers will find it useful whatever their nationality and creed.
The guide goes beyond what is contained in ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. It provides a number of practical tips, from how to be assertive without being disrespectful to how to choose the best manning agency. There are also reminders on dealing with doctors, maritime lawyers and government employees.
The tips are written in clear, concise English. They are each accompanied by quotes from famous writers and other personages. Here’s one example:
