Hazards of coal: Indonesia in focus
In light of the dangers that ships and seafarers continue to face in the loading and transport of coal, the UK P&I Club has published a simple “How to monitor coal cargoes from Indonesia” checklist. Self-heating incidents involving coal cargoes have been problematic for centuries. It was a much-feared hazard in the days of wooden sailing ships, and has continued on since the advent of modern steamships.
