Of late, we’ve been more active on Twitter. This social networking and microblogging service not only lets our readers stay tuned to Marine Café Blog. It also allows us to share spur-of-the-moment thoughts on any subject through text-based messages of up to 140 characters called “Tweets”. We’re not surprised that Twitter now has 140 million-plus active users: it’s both a source of information and an outlet for self-expression. Here’s a look at what we’ve been tweeting:
- An EU ban on Filipino seafarers would be bad for maritime lawyers, medical clinics, training centres, travel agents & even tailors.
- Two things the Philippines needs to stave off an EU ban on Filipino seafarers: 1) experts, not idiots, to fix the problem; and 2) prayers.
- Some would profit from the 100th yr of the Titanic & the watery graves of its victims. But at least they remember.
- Picasso’s “Guernica” depicts the horrors of war. Time for a mural about piracy, w/c is a form of war on shipping. http://www.pablopicasso.org/guernica.jsp
- Much of the maritime press has also become a giant copying machine for press releases. Great for standardisation, bad for journalism.
- If the Pope is entitled to armed Swiss guards, why deny shipowners the use of private armed guards to protect their ships & crews?
- Recycling speakers is bad for maritime conference organisers. Leave the recycling to the environmentalists!
- The most informed maritime executives we know are the ones who stay away from maritime conferences. Go figure.
