What’s a maritime blog if those who read it don’t bother to comment on the articles? A self-indulgent monologue. Marine Café Blog, fortunately, has often managed to provoke its readers into reacting and sharing their opinions. Many of the posted comments – from ship captains and ordinary crewmen to maritime educators and company CEOs – are insightful and informed. Guests in any coffeehouse are expected to behave in a certain manner. It’s the same with Marine Café Blog. Alas, some of our visitors think the privilege to comment on the articles posted is a license for them to launch a personal attack. We’ve had to thumb down three comments submitted recently. Not that the commenters did not agree with our views. Rather, the remarks were tantamount to verbal abuse and bullying. We encourage free expression in this blog but we won’t condone boorish behaviour. ~Barista Uno
