We condole with the entire Videotel family at the passing away of their chairman, Len Holder, on 21st April after a short illness. Mr Holder died on the same day as our youngest brother, Joji. So this week has been a somber time for us – and a strong reminder of the beauty and brevity of life. Although we never met Mr Holder, we felt honoured that he was reading Marine Café Blog and even took time to comment on some of our posts. (more…)

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has given its nod to Videotel‘s new suite of security training courses. Coming as it does from the MCA headed by the illustrious Sir Alan Massey, the approval is significant. It reminds us of the ‘Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval’ of the popular Hearst magazine. It’s also quite timely: from 1st January 2014, all seafarers must undergo security awareness training under the amended STCW regulations. (more…)

According to London-based Videotel, more than 52,000 crew and 1,600 ships now use its webFTA (Fleet Training Administrator) system – an online solution that allows a company access to all the training records of its shipboard personnel across the fleet. We won’t be surprised if the figures will go on rising. Not only does webFTA provide an easy way to schedule rank-specific, statutory and non-statutory training, create reports and upload certificates. A service such as this has actually become a necessity. (more…)
