The “Party in the Park” held on 26th June at Manila’s Rizal Park (a.k.a. Luneta) was a tremendous success, according to Roger Harris, executive director of the organising body, International Committee on Seafarers Welfare (ICSW). The event, in celebration of the Year of the Seafarer, drew hundreds of seafarers, their families and some bigwigs from the Filipino and international maritime community. Too bad we missed the merrymaking depicted in photos that were kindly provided by the ICSW.
A few words from Roger Harris of the ICSW before the party kicked off
For seafarers’ families, a welcome break from the harsh and hurried life in the city
A Filipino dance number never fails to perk up the crowd
As always, the children had the most fun
Hard work for the organisers but it was all worth it

nice entertainment, but i believe our seafarers deserves more than that…why not make a real building for our seafarers where they can really have a real shelter. unlike now everytime it rains, they just disappear in the area. They are also prone to thieves and other unscrupolous people who take advantage of their innocence, especially those from the province. If they really want to honor our seafarers, they have to do better….
