Of late, we’ve been more active on Twitter. This social networking and microblogging service not only lets our readers stay tuned to Marine Café Blog. It also allows us to share spur-of-the-moment thoughts on any subject through text-based messages of up to 140 characters called “Tweets”. Confined spaces on ships continue to exact a heavy – and unacceptable – casualty toll on seafarers. So it’s heartening to note that Bob Couttie’s The SafeSpace Project is making steady progress: at least a dozen entities (Marine Café Blog is one of them) have come on board as official supporters. Meanwhile, we are having to deal with another kind of hazardous space. It’s called editorial space, which, although not posing physical danger, can be the source of much aggravation. Marine Café Blog is now following a regular update schedule – every Tuesday and Thursday. As the need arises, there may be new blog posts on other days. As a rule, however, we shall be bunching together fresh articles on these two days of the week. This update cycle should mean a better selection of editorial material whilst giving us more time for some personal projects that we had neglected. Otherwise, Marine Café Blog remains the same. We are now on our third year (the blog turned two years old in August) and we shall continue to serve it hot and strong. Sorry, still no decaf on the menu. ~Barista Uno

Guests in any coffeehouse are expected to behave in a certain manner. It’s the same with Marine Café Blog. Alas, some of our visitors think the privilege to comment on the articles posted is a license for them to launch a personal attack. We’ve had to thumb down three comments submitted recently. Not that the commenters did not agree with our views. Rather, the remarks were tantamount to verbal abuse and bullying. We encourage free expression in this blog but we won’t condone boorish behaviour. ~Barista Uno
